The "carat" refers to the weight of the diamond. The bigger the carat, the more money the diamond. There is no "good" or "bad" carat, it strictly has to do with budget. Some trade off quality to get a bigger rock, while others want the finest diamond and settle for a smaller carat weight.

(VG) This diamond effectively reflects most of the light that enters. This cut grade shares many of the Excellent cut grade proportions with only minor differences. A Very Good Cut diamond is more affordable than Excellent cut diamonds and does not compromise on brilliance. Considered a high-quality diamond cut.

A diamond's cut also referred to as the stone's "make" is the proportions of its facets and its overall finish. Cut is a result of a craftsman's skill in transforming a rough crystal into a magnificent gem. A well-proportioned (well-cut) stone will create that fire and brilliance of flashing rainbow colors and liveliness.

Color I

Color refers to the natural body color of a diamond. The color grade, a measure of a stone's colorlessness determines how much tint of yellow it has. The color scale ranges from absolutely colorless (D color) to light yellow (L color). In general, the less color a diamond has the more money it is, all other factors being equal.

diamond_color

(I) To most people this diamond will look completely colorless when viewed face-up, whatever color exists will not be noticeable to the untrained eye once the diamond is set. Under controlled lighting and with careful examination a person may be able to detect a very, very subtle glow of yellowish tint when viewed loose, however most people can appreciate this hint of color and find that it gives the diamond a warm lively appearance. While completely colorless diamonds are more valuable, I-color is considered high-quality and offers great value, so you can afford a larger diamond. A fluorescence grade of medium or strong will partially mask the slight tint making the diamond appear whiter.

Clarity SI1

Most diamonds have inclusions. These are natural microscopic features in a diamond. The clarity grade refers to a stone's relative absence of these clarity characteristics from FL (flawless) to I1 (included) scale. Most people find the "sweet spot" to be VS2/SI1 where the diamonds appear "eye clean".

diamond_clearity si2-si1

(SI1) This diamond contains few inclusions detectable using 10x magnification. However, when the diamond is set in jewelry, these inclusions are not usually visible to the naked eye. The SI1 graded diamonds are less expensive then higher clarity graded and therefore offer exceptional value for those that want to stay within budget and get a larger diamond.
